He received his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, Florida and completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital.  Dr. Kaufman was a major in the United States Air Force from 1973 to 1975 serving as pathologist for a 350 bed hospital.   He is a member of College of American Pathologists.
